A bilateral discussion
was held between the civil aviation authorities of the State of Kuwait and the
Republic of Maldives with the aim of updating the operational items between the
two sides and increasing cooperation in the field of civil aviation to achieve
maximum flexibility in the operation of air services between them for the
economic benefit of the two countries.
The meeting
was held on the sidelines of the General Assembly of the International Civil
Aviation Organization (ICAO) meetings held during the period from 27 September
to 7 October 2022 in Montreal, Canada.
These talks
resulted in the signing of a new memorandum of understanding during which the
operating arrangements between the two countries were updated, taking into
account the continuous growth in air traffic for passengers and air freight,
and one of the most important results of the agreement is the removal of
operational restrictions on the scheduled route, the agreement on the
arrangements of the common code between the two countries, and the opening of
the number of flights of any type of aircraft to exercise the third, fourth and
fifth freedoms without restrictions.
Following
the signing ceremony, the head of the delegation of the State of Kuwait Sheikh
/ Abdullah Ali Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah, Chairman of the General Directorate of
Civil Aviation, said that this memorandum comes within the policy of the
General Directorate of Civil Aviation towards opening the airspace,
strengthening bilateral air relations with other countries, facilitating the
operation of commercial passenger and cargo airlines of both countries, and to
link Kuwait International Airport with the largest number of international
airports in order to enhance air traffic between the two countries and
encourage trade exchange between the State of Kuwait and the Republic Maldives
and striving towards opening new global markets to serve passengers to and from
Kuwait International Airport.
