Civil Aviation Celebrates the World Aviation Day
The Director-General of the Directorate
General of Civil Aviation - Mr. Yousef
Al-Fouzan, said that the State of Kuwait is striving to adopt the best
international practices in the field of civil aviation industry, benefiting from
its distinct geographical location, which has been translated through the open
skies policy, to become one of the most prestigious regional hubs in the civil
aviation industry in the region.
This came in a statement by Mr. Al-Fouzan
during a celebration organized by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation on
the occasion of the World Civil Aviation Day, which coincides with the
anniversary of signing the Convention on International Civil Aviation in 1944,
also known as the Chicago Charter, on 7th December under the slogan
(Advancing Innovation for Development of Global Aviation).
He added that the aspirations and
strategic vision in the plan to modernize and develop Kuwait International
Airport come in response to the expected growth in air-traffic, stressing the
State of Kuwait's keenness in developing the civil aviation sector as one of
the most important sectors that will contribute towards achieving its
development and economic goals through the (New Kuwait Vision 2030).
He explained that the World Civil
Aviation Day aims to help enhance global awareness of the importance of
international civil aviation in the social and economic development of the countries.
He stated that the celebration
highlights the role of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which
is affiliated with the United Nations system concerned with civil aviation and
international air-transport, represented in helping the countries to collaborate
and attain a global air-transport network characterized by safety and security
in a manner that serves humanity.
Mr. Al-Fouzan indicated that
the celebration of the World Civil Aviation Day comes about two years after the
Corona pandemic, which posed a major challenge to the air-transport sector globally.
He pointed out that, as from the
beginning of the pandemic, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation undertook all
safety and precautionary measures and adopted codes and guidelines, as well as
its efforts to develop plans to support the air-transport sector in Kuwait in
order to accelerate recovery and the return of the air-transport sector to exercise
its vital role in the economic and social development, in addition to
developing a comprehensive plan to restart operating commercial flights to
Kuwait International Airport.
He indicated that the State of
Kuwait holds a long history as a contracting member with ICAO since 1960,
pointing out the country's interest in continuing to support ICAO's programs
and policies and keeping pace with the global practice.
